AL Jazeera and JSC (Jazeera Satellite Channel) is a Doha based broadcaster owned by the AL Jazeera Media Network. It was launched as an Arabic news and current affairs and it is owned by the government of Qatar but the channel stated that they are editorial independent from government of Qatar. The channel was officially launched on 1 November 1996 with the slogan “The Opinion and The Other Opinion”. Its broadcast area is Worldwide.

The channel created controversies in Arab States of the Persian Gulf when the willing to broadcast call-in shows. It was the only channel to cover war live from its office directly. At the time of its launch Arabsat was the only satellite broadcasting to the Middle East. It was counted as the only international news network who had its correspondents in Iraq during the Operation Desert Fox bombing campaign in 1998. In 2001 it launched its free Arabic language website.

AL Jazeera get its worldwide recognition when it broadcast video statements by al –Qaeda leaders its news programs somewhere affected the course of events in the region. The channel is a 24- hour , 7 days-a-week news channel with 12 hours broadcast in Doha, and four hours each from London , Kuala Lumpur , and Washington D. C. It started its different news channels like AL Jazeera America, AL Jazeera Turk, Sports Channels. The channel has also plans to launch a Spanish-Language news network.

It has faced various controversies and criticism it has been accused of supporting the Muslim brotherhood but it has its large audience by opening various language news channels including its sister channels AL Jazeera English, AL Jazeera Mubasher, AL Jazeera Balkans, Al Jazeera Documentary.
